Section 1: General Information on Snooker and Billiard Diners

These most stylish and functional snooker dining tables are made by Bilijardai in the ancient Lithuanian city of Kaunas where they combine the traditional skills of billiards with their growing reputation as makers of fine furniture. The result is a range of the most contemporary and classy snooker & billiards diner tables produced anywhere within the European Union. These are fixed-height tables, and ideal for domestic use as dining tables or as office tables. They also make for an elegant board room or meeting room table.

What is a snooker dining table?

First, "Snooker-dining-table" is a generic terms to describe a domestic snooker table that converts into a dining table. Snooker diners became popular in the UK in the late 19th and early 20th Century when E J Riley  became the best known snooker dining table manufacturer. Many of the Riley diner tables made during this period still exist and some are valuable collector items. The primary aim was to re-create the snooker game - which would normally be played on a full size table ( 12ft in length) - onto a miniaturised playing surface between 5ft and 8ft in length. Because the reduced playing area of a domestic snooker diner made it difficult to play with a full set of (22) snooker balls, the preferred domestic game, then, was English billiards (played with only 3 balls).

And since then the term  "Billiards" has become totally internationalised, and now encompasses all modern cue-games, including the British, American, French, Russian and other European variations of cue sport games.

Because of the inherent ambiguity in modern language to describe and properly differentiate modern cue sport games, and particularly because of European and American misunderstandings on Billiards terminology, Corporata prefers in the main to rely on the term "snooker dining table" to describe the combination of cue-sports-games and dining functionality.

Indeed "Snooker" is a term that most ordinary people (particularly non-players) would reasonably apply to any domestic cue and ball game (particularly because of the influence of nearly 50 years TV exposure).

Snooker dining tables start from £1600 (ex-works).

Game-options for Bilijardai snooker dining tables

This information is taken and translated from the Customer Information Section of the Bilijardai website icon for external weblink In order to choose your billiard table, you must know which billiard game interests you. Rules of the different billiard games (American billiards, Snooker, Russian Pyramid, English billiards, Carom) are available on the sites of the various billiard federations.

Russian Pyramid

Pyramid or Russian billiards was the only billiard game in Lithuania during the Soviet Union period. Club (3m-1.5m size) and semi club (2m-1m size) billiard tables were very popular in the whole area of the Soviet Union and many customers were interested in these billiard tables. Nowadays variants of size has increased. Starting at 9ft size this billiard game is played with 68mm diameter billiard balls. On smaller size billiard tables this game is played with 57.2mm diameter balls. This billiard game does not require complicated strategy, but requires great accuracy, as the width of the pockets are only 4-6mm wider than the diameter of a billiard ball. This is a very popular billiard game in the whole area of ex Soviet Union. A similar game is also played in Finland.

American Billiards

American billiards is a most dynamic game. The maximum size of American billiard tables is 9ft (playing area is 2.54-1.27m), but at home you can also play on smaller sizes of 8ft and 7ft. With coloured billiard balls and large pockets, it is possible to have really good fun with all the family. This is the most popular billiard game in the world, not least in Lithuania.

Snooker

The snooker billiards game, derived from England, represents precision, grace and intelligence. During Snooker tournaments, which are often aired on Eurosport TV, you can understand the real beauty of this billiard game. This billiard game is sophisticated, and requires accuracy as well as tactics. Snooker is played in Lithuania, but more often in billiard clubs than at home.

English billiards

As with Snooker, this billiards game came from England and is played on 6-7ft tables. Black, white and seven yellow plus seven red billiard balls are hit according to the rules of 8-ball billiards. This billiard game is only played in Great Britain. In Lithuania it is not popular; but on the same billiard tables you can play the Snooker game, just using less of the red balls.

Carom

The essence of Carom is using a certain billiard ball to hit another one in such a way, that it would hit the third one according to the rules. A possible requirement is to touch two or three billiard cushions. Also, a requirement in certain areas of the billiard table (marked on the billiard cloth) is to make not more than a certain amount  of carom shots. This billiard game requires not only good knowledge and skills, but also a very precise billiard table: an especially rigid construction, up to 70mm thickness slate, and a heating system for the playing area of the billiard table. This billiard game is very popular in Italy, France, also in several countries in Asia, Africa, South America.
